Frosted film for office partitions: choosing coverage zones
Full coverage, bands or selected areas on glass: check views, light and silhouettes before planning an office or meeting room.
Identify the view you need to obscure
Mark workstations, the meeting-room entrance and the corridor route. What needs obscuring: a screen, a table, seated people or the whole room? Check sightlines while standing and sitting on both sides. This helps define coverage more effectively than starting with a pattern you liked in a photograph.
Compare full coverage and selected areas
Frosted film diffuses light and blurs views in both directions. Clear sections retain a direct view. Position the coverage for the actual task instead of assuming a standard height. Test a gradient sample along its full height too: different levels of transparency can leave different views.
| Option | When to consider it | What still needs checking |
|---|---|---|
| Full coverage | Views need restricting across the pane | Sample light transmission and silhouettes |
| Band or selected area | A specific sightline needs obscuring | Views above and below, sitting and standing |
| Gradient | A transition between viewing zones is wanted | Position of denser and clearer areas |
Test a sample under working lighting
Place a sample at the glass and assess it from the corridor and inside the room. Use normal working lights and check evening conditions if the room is used after sunset. Look at people and objects at their actual distance from the partition: nearby silhouettes may remain visible. Separately check whether the screen or document you need to obscure can still be read.
Allow for doors, joints and pattern alignment
Mark each pane, door, handle, fitting and joint on a sketch. Check band alignment with the door closed and agree the application side. Confirm zone dimensions, colour and sample orientation before installation. A logo needs an agreed design; cut-out sections can also leave views through the glass.
Separate decoration from other requirements
A frosted surface does not replace an acoustic assessment of a meeting room or establish burglary resistance. If protection is required, discuss a separate documented system for the specific glazing. Check compatibility, application conditions and care for the chosen material. The linked sources explain film categories and do not establish that TonerPro stocks a particular model.
Prepare the information for a quote
Send partition photos and a sketch of the desired coverage. Once a sample is selected, cutting and proposal details can be clarified using the existing quote guide.
- Dimensions and quantity of each pane and door.
- Height of the zone’s lower and upper edges from the floor.
- Viewing position and what needs obscuring.
- Photos from both sides under normal lighting.
- Known glazing, existing film and access.
- Permitted working hours and desired timing.
